Municipalities

Sauga municipality is located as a semi-circle around the city of Pärnu. Semi-urban, rural life areas and good connections with the City have attracted many young families to establish their homes here. Geographically, the territory of Sauga municipality remains in the Pärnu lowland, consisting of a larger share of the western part of the Nurme bog and the entire Rääma bog. Swamp and forest cover more than half of the territory of the parish, hence the main mineral resources - peat.

In the parish are important transport nodes of Pärnu County, including the airport as well as the Via Baltica highway and the Pärnu – Rakvere highway which run through the parish.

In the local Pulli village, the oldest traces of human activity in Estonia have been found.  The signs from tribal activity of hunter-gatherers-fishermen in a Pulli Stone Age settlement date back from the time of some 11 000 years ago.

In the territory of Sauga municipality is the Niidu-Tammiste forest landscape, which offers natural aesthetic pleasure as a holiday value. Beautiful sections of the roads are old and winding and are in close proximity to several landscape venues, when traveling on them the visitor is faced with beautiful views, which also makes their usage suitable as hiking trails. The Pärnu River, which winds its way throughout the parish, has become recognized as a beautiful section of the Estonian waterways.

We recommend that families with children drop by the Nurmenuku Recreation Center. The Center houses domestic animals each contained in their own separate little houses. The open meadow makes for a fun ride on Estonian draft horses and for the little children there is a carousel and a swing park. The small guests can also get to jump on the trampoline and to do and see plenty of other interesting things.  The Jõekääru camp site by Sauga River offers opportunities for sport recreation for the entire family – for the adventurous, an adventure trail, climbing walls and Kiiking, also many social games including paintball and archery.  In the Uueda tourism farm it is also possible, in addition to accommodation and organizing of events, to examine unique cars and old tools.

The single largest employers of Sauga parish are EKTO OÜ Pärnu (heavy equipment rental, sales and service), ASB Greenworld Estonia OÜ (the growth of peat), Nurme Teedeehitus OÜ (road building and earth works). A detailed plan for an Industrial Park to be established in the area on 100 hectares is expected to be developed as an industrial village.

The active people of the parish belong to many associations and partnerships.  Active women are concentrated in the women’s associations, Kilksama-Räägu and Pulli village societies, which contribute to the development of village life. The local Lions lend a hand to the events and charity projects of the parish people.
